A Paranoid Critical Landscape

She rests in Saturnine shadows
surrounded by acolytes submerged in electrolyte preserve
They worship her feet that so many a watermark hath tread
to ripple beyond the confines of the courtyard and knee high wall
containing the expanse of still fountain water
which reflects the sky but will not mirror her wants

On kite wings the condor follows its own shadow valley fleet
where prey don’t cast their eyes skyward in fear of what they may behold
The sun god dries his eyes on the corner of the sky
causing steam to cloud-form from the embers of the sea

He waits in Corinthian shadows
alert to sliver moon stalking assassins with rapier drawn
and at the fountain where they pause to think and regroup
His fingertips ripple the surface once mercury still now ruby stained
contained but untamed by surface tension
that reflects his wants but no longer mirrors the sky
