Ape X

This gleaning ape, wide awake to all he thinks he feels
Dead to romance tied to voyeurism
Questions carved in passing, biting at his heels

This scheming ape that treasures all his broken things
Rusted toys and tarnished optimism
Severed locks of amber hair and tattered apron strings

This dreaming ape, fast asleep behind the steering wheel
Cushioned in his private symbolism
Answers cast in caste encased in hurtling steel

There is then a benefit to having no past to treasure and no future to ponder.

i love your use of language, it always floors me. great imagery..

so the image...all he has to do is jump, right? no longer encased, no longer a voyeur?

Liza: Glad you enjoyed

Zoe: The image (to me) depicts the encasement - jumping is no answer

hmm-i was thinking more jumping in to, not jumping off of-i think it was the cape that did it for me. on the roof, i see the distance, the isolation, the observation, he's apart. but if he were to "take the leap," as it were...
sorry, didn't mean at all to sound grim!

Zoe: I get you now - yes. :)

you have conveyed ( for me) such a felt sense of being surrounded....and almost, almost oblivious
the image is so ... grey; quite effective

Harlequin: encased we are withing our little bone skulls

concrete monkeys riding steel buffalo... what is it that makes them transform when they hit the road? sooner run you over than put on the break... best to stay off the cross-walks and stay to the trail

Jon: encase in the steel buffalo the monkey feels invincible - splat!
