Here be Dragons

In a summer field
Grass grown out from last mow
Lovers in the green
A bent knee here
A shoulder there
Lazy
Sunned/stunned
From where I pass they look like carrion from a past kill
The sated beast moved on
Scraps for scavengers
These creatures
Omnivorous provided they don’t have to suffer the danger of the killing
No sense of their fragile mortality
Arrogance confirms their mastery of this planet
Lost their caution
Prey to a greater predator
