'38 Rue Utopia ~ Ep.44

And my father's singing in the fallin' leaves
There's no way out of this old world even if you try
~ The Veils ‘Sit Down by the Fire’ 2009

Catwoman ~ Igor Skaletsky

During the early days Eva’s nightmares would make Alice’s blood run cold.
She’d be awoken, sweating, by that archaic proximity sensor that tells you you’re not alone.
Eva’d be standing at the foot of her bed; teeth bared; hands clenching and unclenching at her sides as if strapped there; eyes rolled back, only white reflecting in the grey early morning glow from the bottle-bottom window that distorts the view from Alice’s room.
Despite all her own primal night-time fears, Alice would rise from the safety of her bed to embrace Eva, softly at first so as not to startle, increasing in intensity as Eva rose through the layers of her nightmare.
It has been years since the last time.
“Again?” Eva asks as she takes a deep breath from Alice’s neck and in the unhindered clarity of awakening she notices Alice’s hair is streaked with grey; how come she’s only just noticed?
In her eyes there is an afterimage in the shape of: she blinks rapidly to read:
P A L I N O P S I A
“Eva, Eva, baby, with the stress of all that’s been going on I’m surprised you’re the only one having nightmares”
