Fables from a Forgotten Place: Jake's Glove; Narrow Minds and Mountain Goats

At home (with Franco Matticchio) ~ Guido Pigni

One Wednesday Jimmy-B threw Jake’s glove into the path that runs between the railway fence and the school fence.
Jimmy-B wasn’t being nasty, only he did tend to take things too far when he got a bit excited. They’d been flying around the playground for what must have been hundreds of miles; must’ve been since they’d already been to Yahmerica ‘n’ back; so Jimmy-B was definitely excited.
When Jake attempted to climb the fence to retrieve his glove he got a row from Mrs. Grumpy Guts - Wednesdays being her day to monitor the playground - telling him that the fence was too high to climb, even for mountain goats.

That Friday Maybelline called him to the fence, she pointed at his lost glove that had now been hung on the railway fence by some good Samaritan who had not taken into consideration that the glove may have come from the school, believing rather that it had been dropped by someone using the pathway same as he was.
Had the good Samaritan not suffered this tunnel vision (or in this case, pathway vision) he would have hung the glove on the other side of the path; on the school fence.
“chortle chortle lol lol lol’ Jimmy-B squealed pointing “Jake’s glove!”
The crowd that had gathered for the spectacle laughed out loud in a symphony of myriad tones and tempos, then proceeded to chant “Jake’s glove! Jake’s glove! Jake’s glove!” until they were pacified by Mrs. Hen and told to all calm down for lunchtime.
“Maybe it got tired of lying on the wet path and climbed up there to dry out in the sun” said Emily, but then she always came out with daft stuff like that, so nobody paid any attention.
